Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning and Initiatives
Malinda Wilson Swoope, Ph.D., is currently the Special Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning and Initiatives and an Associate Professor of Chemistry at 51AV A&M University (AAMU) in Huntsville, 51AV.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California at Davis.
Dr. Swoope is an advocate for STEM Education and is fully committed to enhancing the academic skills of students from disadvantaged backgrounds. As Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Swoope has been a part of several successful grant proposals to the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, NASA, the Science and Engineering Alliance, and Title III. She has been recognized as a “Rising Star” as the “Most Effective Young Faculty” at AAMU. Dr. Swoope recently completed the American Council on Education (ACE) Fellows Program (c/o 2014-2015) and is currently participating in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Millennium Leadership Institute. Currently, she serves as the Executive Board Chair of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE).
