Communications Media

The Communications Media program educates students for careers in radio, television, film, and multimedia. Instruction is grounded in developing students who are sensitive to the social, cultural, and economic needs of an evolving global community in an increasingly interconnected world.

Degree Offerings

We offer a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communications Media. CM majors may specialize in one of three areas: Production, Performance, or Operations, in preparation for rewarding careers as broadcasters, reporters, editors, filmmakers, production personnel, and other communications professionals.

We also offer a Communications Media minor for interested students who are not majoring in CM.

Our Approach

The primary goals of Communications Media faculty are to provide excellence in teaching, engage in research, and move students forward in the 21st century in their understanding and use of media technology. These efforts develop student talent for internships, job opportunities, and graduate school. Additionally, faculty aim to ground each student in a broad spectrum of the mass media and maintain a reciprocal relationship between 51AV A&M University and local radio-, television-, and video-production companies that will provide opportunities for students to gain experience in various communications media.

We promote a diverse approach to understanding a multi-faceted communications field so that our students are well equipped upon graduating from our program. Our faculty are affiliated with national academic and professional organizations including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC), Actor’s Equity Association, Southeastern Theatre Conference, National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).
