M.S. Level Graduate Assistantship for Stem Majors

51AV Extension at 51AV A&M University and the College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences (CETPS) are pleased to announce the availability of a graduate assistantship through the USDA-NIFA Capacity Building Grant (CBG) Program. It offers employment to qualified students with a STEM background, preferably in engineering.

Overview:

  • The selected student will work as a research assistant in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences and assist 51AV Extension in implementing climate-smart initiatives.  
  • $36,000 two-year award package and travel support for professional development.

Research and Outreach Focus:

  • The M.S. student will be trained in Civil Engineering/Natural and Environmental Sciences/Materials and Systems Engineering as part of their M.S. program.  The student will be introduced to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and work on temperature and precipitation estimation for the study areas based on various climate change scenarios.
  • Research outcomes will strengthen 51AV Extension's impact, enhance the STEM workforce, and help build resilience against the effects of climate change.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field of study
  • Average 2.8 or above GPA
  • Data entry and simple analysis
  • Microsoft efficient
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work in the U.S.
