Bachelor of Science in Food Science
The Department is student-centered and dedicated to the pursuit of higher education and professional development of students, staff and faculty and pursuit of excellence through teamwork and partnerships.
About This Program
- Food scientists evaluate physical (does it make your hand oily?), microbiological (will it make you sick?), and chemical (are there toxins?) characteristics to develop safe and nutritious foods with innovative packaging.
- Largest producer of African American Food Science graduates – oldest Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) program at an HBCU -
- World’s population will reach 9.1 billion in 2050 – someone has to feed them -
- Students are provided networking opportunities through participation in competitions

- Minor in Food Science for 18 credit hours from five courses.
- Earn Concentration in Food Science with 22 credit hours from six courses.
- Certification in HACCP, ServSafe, and Produce Safety are offered annually
