Bachelor of Science in Forestry

Our program prepares students who want to pursue a career in research or an advanced graduate degree and prepares them for professional careers. This program is the only professionally accredited forestry program at an HBCU. Our Forestry students may also minor in Wildlife Biology or Fisheries. The students in this major benefit from a close partnership with the US Forest Service.

About This Program

Students who join our Forestry, Ecology, and Wildlife Program (FEWP) will discover a family of professors, staff, and students who are willing to spend time in and outside of the classroom helping them prepare for an exciting career contributing to the conservation and management of forests and natural resources. FEWP strives for excellence in forestry education, research, and service to the public. Our forestry program is nationally accredited and a Center of Excellence with the USDA Forest Service.

Our faculty are involved in active research in the field of forestry, submitting multiple research proposals to organizations such as the NSF and USDA. We’re also the home of the FireDawgs, a student-led forest fire fighting team. They’ve been mobilized for wild fires, rescues, and to perform prescribed burns.

Career Fields

More than 90% of our graduates have found placement with jobs in their field of study, including careers with the USDA Forest Service and other opportunities. A number of career paths are available to graduates from our FEWP.
