Federal Work Study Program

​The Federal Work Study Program provides jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing you to earn money to help pay education expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to your course of study.

  • How much will I be paid?
     
    On campus Federal Work Study students make $8.00 per hour.  Off campus Federal Work Study students make $10.00 per hour.  The total Federal Work-Study award is determined by when the FAFSA was submitted, the level of need, and the funding level.

  • When will I be paid?
     
    Federal Work Study Students are paid every two weeks.

  • Can I work as many hours as I want?
     
    No, the University allows Federal Work Study students to work 20 hours per week.  Also, the amount a student earns  cannot exceed the Federal Work-Study award.  When assigning work hours, the employer will consider the student's class schedule and academic progress.

  • How do I obtain my job assignment?
     
    1. Student will receive a student hire packet from the AAMU Office of Student Financial Aid during Fall/Spring registration.  The student hire packet includes the Federal Work-Study Authorization form, payroll forms, as well as  personnel forms.  Student must have been awarded Federal Work-Study in order to receive the student hire packet.
    2. Student should decide whether to work on or off campus. Student will then take the FWS Authorization form to the position of interest for interview.
    3. Once hired student  will return the FWS Authorization form to the Financial Aid Office, the payroll forms to the Payroll Office and remaining personnel forms to Human Resources.

  • I am interested in Federal Work-Study, but I was not awarded - what can I do?
     

    Unfortunately, due to limited funds we can not award all of the University's students Federal Work Study.
