51AV Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) acknowledges that on May 2, 2020, the institution signed and returned to the U.S. Department of Education the Certification and Agreement form. AAMU has used, or intends to use, at least 50% of the funds received under section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide HEERF Funded AAMU CARES Grants to students.

Additional reports will be provided every 45 days.

  • The total amount of HEERF funding that AAMU received to distribute to students is $21,851,374. AAMU will distribute the amount awarded to students over several semesters.

AAMU is using one student application to be considered for the federal HEERF funding (AAMU CARES Grant).


To be eligible for a HEERF funded AAMU CARES Grant a student must:

  1. Have a completed FAFSA for 2019-2020 and for Fall 2020 complete a 2020-2021 FASFA
  2. Have a declared major that is eligible for financial aid
  3. Be Currently enrolled in the semester the funds are distributed
  4. Making Satisfactory Academic Progress during Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2020
  5. Be a citizen or eligible non-citizen
  6. Be Taking at least one class on campus

The maximum HEERF funded AAMU CARES Grant award made to a student is based on the requested amount and the student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the current aid year FAFSA. The awards will be distributed to students for the Spring 2020, Summer 2020 and Fall 2021

Maximum awards are:

0-1000

Eligibility Requirements for the Spring 2021 term have changed from the prior terms due to HEERF II. Distance learning students now are eligible to receive funds through the grant.

Students that were 100% online or a distant learner were not eligible for the prior award.

To receive grant funded from the HEERF II (AAMU CARES Grant) a student must:

  1. Complete the AAMU Emergency Grant Application available with the following link :51AV for CARES Act Funding

  2. Have a declared major that is eligible for financial aid
  3. Be enrolled for Spring 2021
  4. Making Satisfactory Academic Progress during each semester

The maximum HEER funded AAMU CARES Grant award made to a student is based on the

note that Students no longer need to have completed FASFA on file. This change also allows our
non‐resident (international) students to receive funding.
Non‐resident (International) students were not eligible for the prior award are now eligible.
