VOIP Services

VoIP, or IP Telephony, is a communication service through voice, facsimile, and/or voice messaging applications that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network. "VoIP" stands for "voice over Internet protocol."

AAMU has implemented a collaborative VoIP telephone system that offers a variety of advanced features and gives you the freedom to move your phone from one office to another anywhere on the campus without having to place a service call. Many other advanced features are now available with this system including new functions to support AAMU Distance Education initiatives.

The new VoIP telephone system will provide users with a host of new features in support of user collaboration, mobility, and messaging.  Mitel combines all these functions into a single solution: the Mitel Applications Suite (MAS).  The Mitel Applications Suite will provide the campus with the following advanced capabilities:

  • Access to all voice functions from one place - from anywhere on any device
  • Single number caller ID -- no need to publish multiple numbers now
  • Presence - which provides a visual of someone's status and real-time access to everyone in the organization, on or off the premises
  • Programmable keys, one-touch, multi-function, self-labeling keys (for speed dialing, line appearances, and feature access)
  • Directory function for finding employees quickly on the campus
  • Ability to move a phone anywhere on the campus without having to install new wireless or reprogram connections
  • Web presentation and collaboration
  • Instant messaging
  • Audio and web conferencing
  • Voicemail to email
  • And much more..
