Student achievement

BSUP Program

Student achievements are measured by three student learning outcomes (SLOs) as follows:

  1. Students will understand the history of the field of urban planning and its theoretical underpinnings, the legal basis for the practice of planning in the U.S. context, and the governmental and economic contexts within which planners operate.
  2. Students will be able to demonstrate and apply the knowledge necessary for beginning students practicing planners such as critical and spatial thinking, the ability to analyze, and present data to diverse audiences, professional oral, written, and graphic communication.
  3. Students will be able to utilize the values of the planning profession of inclusion, diversity and social justice.

The assessments were conducted to the students in a number of courses including UPL 101 Introduction to Urban Planning, UPL 203 History and Theory of Planning, UPL 216 Planning Research Methods I, UPL 316 Planning Research Methods II, UPL 404 Social Equity in Planning, and UPL 429 Professional Practice. The results of assessment in the academic year 2022/2023 are as follows:

  1. SLO 1: 91% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 101 course; 80% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 203 course
  2. SLO 2: 58% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 216 course; 50% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 316 course
  3. SLO 3: 66% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 404 course; all students (100%) meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in UPL 429 course

MURP Program

Student achievements are measured by four student learning outcomes (SLOs) as follows:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of planning professional practice, history, intent, strategies and values; and apply general planning knowledge as defined by the Planning Accreditation Board.
  2. Students will be able to use appropriate planning techniques and skills in order to perform and present in documents project and or program analyses, and project and or program reviews for government agencies, Planning Commissions, private development firms and non-profit organizations focused on land and community development.
  3. Students will be able to draw action-oriented conclusions from qualitative, quantitative, and experiential knowledge.

The assessments were conducted to the students in a number of courses including URP 510 Planning History and Theory, URP 520 Legal Basis of Planning, URP 531 Population and Economic Analysis, URP 527 Planning Studio II, URP 511 Research Methods I, URP 521 Research Methods II, and URP 531 Population and Economy Analysis. The results of assessment in the academic year 2022/2023 are as follows:

  1. SLO 1: 90% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 510 course; 100% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 520 course.
  2. SLO 2: 88% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 531 course; 100% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 527 course.
  3. SLO 3: 100% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 511 course; 100% students meet the assessment measures at an acceptable or exemplary outcome in URP 521 course.
