GUideline Submission Forms

To print for FREE at J. F. Drake Library, . Ensure all your requests are sent by March 25th for a timely outcome.

Plotter Printing at Your Fingertips! 

  • Large-format printing is available to all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Each AAMU student is entitled to ONE 36 X 48 inches print each semester at no cost.
  • Additional prints are priced at $40 per 36 X 48-inch sheet.
  • Requests must be submitted at least 72 hours in advance.
  • Students will be emailed when their job is complete and ready for pick-up at the RILS (Reference desk on the 2nd floor of Drake LRC.

Guidelines

General Description: The poster presentations will include a visual display of scientific studies, a systematic review of literature, the impact of community learning/field experience projects, and any other creative expressions. Posters presentations provide an opportunity for the students to gain experience and exposure before a professional audience while highlighting their scholarship.

Competencies: The primary competencies that will be necessary and showcased are:
Creative thinking, communication, critical thinking, and self-development

Requirements for Entry: Entries must be an original creation of the student. Abstracts must adhere to the given guidelines and sample on the next page. The abstract must be 300 words or less. The Guidelines cannot be presented before STEM Day. Sample Abstract

Submission Method: All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the AAMU 2020 STEM DAY website by the deadline.

Poster Presentation: Students can share their learning via graphical and diagrammatic posters with standard sections depicted. The broad sections will include an abstract, introduction, methods used, results found, discussions, followed by conclusions and references.

Students are expected to develop the poster on a PowerPoint slide that is 30 inches by 40 inches in size. Students can download the templates provided to create their posters. Templates provide a sample of the expected structure, clarity, completeness, and professional look. Use the when using teh provided templates.

Templates

Poster: Students will utilize the given templates and develop their posters. The posters can be colorful, complete, and easy to follow. Include all the necessary side-headings for a professional poster. The name of the student author, major advisor, and other co-authors must be listed. Any references, affiliation, or funding information must be included as well. The poster must be converted to a PDF and uploaded on Whova.

Video: Students are required to prepare a short, 2-3-minute video explaining their poster and upload it via Whova.

Evaluation of the Poster: A team of judges (4-5) will review the poster and evaluate them using the following criteria: using criteria: complete and easy to understand, compelling and well- designed, the significance of the topic, importance of the results, scientific approach, explanations, and clarifications, and responses to the questions.

Posters

  • Poster presentations will be available on the conference platform beginning Tuesday, March 16, 2021, as the students begin to upload them to the site.
  • Poster presenters have a scheduled live discussion time on Friday, March 19, 2021, from 9:00 AM to Noon to discuss their research with attendees. Check the for details.
  • Posters should be created using a standard method (PowerPoint or Prezi) and formatted using the standard methods. Check-out the templates given on the AAMU website for choices and additional instructions.
  • Your poster is one slide and needs to be converted into a PDF and uploaded via the provided link on the Whova. Find more resources on the

    Video Clip

  • In addition to the poster (PDF), students are required to upload a 2-3-minute video clip of their poster presentation. This can be done using your cellphone, webcam, iPad, Ensure the video is of high-resolution and saved as a media file: mp4, mov, wmv, flv, avi, etc.
  • In your presentation, be sure to include (a) the Goals of the project/research, (b) Methods used, (c) Results obtained, and (d) Conclusions. It is recommended to include the significance of the project/research, implications for practice, policy, and further research.
  • If interested, students can also upload a handout to give share with your audience. This may include a summary of results, highlights of the study, latest statistics, or anything else you wish to share with your audience. (ps: Handout is optional.)

Profile

  • Complete your profile as the attendees and the judging committee will be reviewing your profile when visiting your poster/oral presentation. Make it professional and complete.
  • Upload a professionally dressed profile photo along with your name, major, and classification. Keep your head clear of any hats or decorations. (ps: Religious wear is acceptable.)

Zoom Link

To present live during the conference, you will generate a Zoom meeting link and share it with the STEM Day 2021 Committee. They will upload your details to the agenda. This will enable the attendees to ‘meet’ and discuss the poster presentation with you on the conference day. Further, this allows you to share and highlight your research to the judges ‘live’ and respond to any questions they may have. This will increase your opportunity to clarify any doubts and leave them with a good impression.

General Description: This competition provides an opportunity for graduate students to gain experience and exposure before a scholarly audience while highlighting their research. The top 20 abstracts will be selected for oral presentations. If the submitted abstract is not selected for the oral presentation, it will automatically be considered for the poster presentation.

Competencies: The primary competencies that will be necessary and showcased are:

                • Communication
                • Critical thinking
                • Self-development

Requirements for Entry: Must be a graduate student. Graduate students can submit the abstract for oral presentation or poster presentation.

NO SINGLE ABSTRACT WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR BOTH

Submission Method: All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the AAMU 2020 STEM DAY website by the deadline.

Presentation: Students will upload any presentation files via Whova. After their presentation, students will also upload the link to their recording of the Zoom presentation.

Length of the Presentation: Each presentation is limited to 5 minutes, including a minute of questions and answers from the audience.

Contest Evaluation: The abstracts will be evaluated BEFORE selecting the finalists who will compete on STEM Day. The abstract should briefly state the research problem, how the problem was evaluated (methods), what was observed or found (results), and how the results are related to the research problem (discussion and conclusions). The abstract should stand on its own and NOT include citations or references within the abstract. The maximum length is 300 words arranged in a single paragraph. Abstracts submitted will be evaluated by at least three judges. The abstracts will be assigned 0-50 points based on the following criteria.

______/10 points Proper spelling, grammar, full sentences, and readability

Note: The AAMU 2020 STEM Day Oral Presentation Committee reserves the right to reject a submission if it does NOT meet the established guidelines as shown in the sample abstract.

Oral Presentations

  • Oral presentations are conducted live, and hence all students must be logged in by 9:00 AM and are ready with all the equipment. Please resolve any technical issues with your laptop, desktop, webcam, iPad, or cellphone.
  • In your presentation, be sure to include (a) the Goals of the project/research, (b) Methods used, (c) Results obtained, and (d) Conclusions. It is recommended to include the significance of the project/research, implications for practice, policy, and further research.
  • Be prepared to respond to any questions that the judges and attendees may have for you after the presentation. Please mute your microphone when not presenting to avoid any background noises.
  • Students are recommended to upload a handout to give/share with their audience. This may include a summary of results, highlights of the study, latest statistics, or anything else you wish to share with your audience. (ps: Handout is optional.)
