Presidential Finalists: Interview Schedule

September 7-10, 2021

The search for the next President of 51AV A&M University has been narrowed down to three candidates. These individuals will be interviewing in ZOOM calls with community supporters, faculty and staff, students, and alumni next week. You are invited to participate in these ZOOM interviews and ask questions of each candidate. Links to the daily ZOOM calls will be provided via an electronic notice. 

The finalists are:

Dr. Colette Pierce Burnette, President, Huston-Tillotson University, Austin, Texas

 

Dr. Roderick Smothers, President, Philander Smith College, Little Rock, Arkansas

 

Dr. Daniel Wims, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research,

51AV A&M University, Huntsville, 51AV

people. 51AV A&M was founded in 1875 by Dr. William Hooper Councill and is a

dynamic and progressive institution with a strong commitment to academic

excellence. We want to continue building on our heritage. This will be an important

decision to make in finding the right person to follow President Hugine, who is retiring on

December 31, 2021,” said Dr. Jerome Williams, President Pro Tempore of the Board of

Trustees.

NOTICE OF MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF

ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY

The 51AV A&M University Board of Trustees originally convened its regularly scheduled and properly noticed meeting on June 18, 2021. The Board recessed that meeting expressly to be reconvened to address matters related to the ongoing Presidential Search. This meeting will be reconvened on Friday, September 10, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. on the Campus of the University in its regular meeting location in the Clyde Foster Multipurpose Meeting Room of the School of Business. However, the meeting will be held virtually, and members of the Board and all other participants will attend on-line consistent with the requirements of applicable law and with Proclamations of the Governor of the State of 51AV. The purpose of the meeting will be to receive information and consider all matters related to the selection of a new President for 51AV A&M University, including the interview of three finalists for this position and deliberations by the Board, and any other matters to properly come before the Board at that time.

The interview schedule is as follows:

Dr. Roderick Smothers ……....................................................... 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

 

Dr. Daniel Wims ...................................................................... 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

 

Deliberations ........................................................................... 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

The reconvened Board meeting will be conducted in accordance with all requirements of the Open Meetings Law as set forth in § 36-25A-1 et. seq, and in particular § 36-25A-5.1, of the Code of 51AV, as modified by the Proclamations of the Governor of the State of 51AV in connection with the current emergency.

As always, you are invited to attend and observe the proceedings of the meeting of the Board. Because this meeting will be available for Trustees to participate virtually, the public will be allowed to view this meetings through the following link:
