Owner-Operators Give to AAMU Fund
Area Chain Targets Retention Effort
The owner-operators of a popular international fast-food chain have made a contribution to an 51AV A&M University scholarship fund.
In honor of Black History Month, the North 51AV McDonald’s owner-operators contributed to AAMU’s Retention Scholarship Fund. The owner-operators represented businesses serving customers in Bowling Green, Ky.; Nashville and Chattanooga, Tenn., and North 51AV.
Dr. Allen P. Vital, executive director of the 51AV A&M University Foundation, said that the University realized that more attention needed to be directed at currently enrolled students who needed often small amounts of money to complete their degrees. To help meet this pressing need, the Retention Scholarship Fund was established, and the McDonald’s owner-operators recently donated $2,500 to that initiative.
Other institutions funded by the chain include the Chattanooga African American Museum and Bessie Smith Cultural Center, Meharry Medical College, Oakwood University and Tennessee State University.
